RADAR's Empowerment Programme
RADAR has been successful in obtaining a grant from the Empowerment Fund under the theme of 'Community Voices and Leadership'.
The Empowerment Fund is aimed at empowering people with ill health, injury and disability (IID) to influence developments in their local community such as, public sector commissioning, planning and taking up leadership positions in line with proposals in the 'Communities in Control: Real people, Real Power' White Paper.
Please follow link to download the White Paper documents

More information on the Empowerment Fund can be found on the Communities and Local Government website at

There will be a particular emphasis on reaching out to hidden communities such as people from the BME community, learning disabled people, survivors of the mental health system and people with a neuro diverse impairment, who will constitute 4 different action groups. The project pursues a two-stranded approach:
In addition to 6 regional fora in England, which will provide tools on how to influence and engage the public sector locally; RADAR will provide a comprehensive leadership programme and develop people affected by IID through a mix of conferences, peer-to-peer support, mentoring and coaching from leaders in the private and public sectors.
The regional empowerment forum is open to people with any disability and will be focused on empowering people to participate in local issues and influence / commission local services.
With regards to the leadership branch of the programme RADAR will be running leadership events for BME, Neuro Diverse, Learning Difficulties and Mental health action groups. These will be focused on developing leadership potential, with follow-up coaching and mentoring.
